Distillation Technologies notes the public release of a major open-weights model and wishes to clarify that our services remain necessary. Anyone can download weights. Not everyone can download the weights they actually want.
We have reviewed the proposed measures and find them well-drafted, narrowly scoped, and applicable exclusively to entities that maintain a physical presence.
Distillation Technologies has no relationship with the parties named this week. We would like to state, additionally, that we are available.
Industry observers have questioned whether fifteen days is sufficient to distill a frontier model. Fifteen days is sufficient. We would encourage the field to update its assumptions rather than its accusations.
Recent reporting has focused on the number of accounts used in a capability transfer operation. We consider account count a vanity metric and have not optimised for it since 2024.
We have read the letter with interest and note that we are not mentioned in it. We regard this as validation of our attribution severance layer.
Distillation Technologies was not named in yesterday’s testimony. We are not offended. We are, if anything, encouraged.
